A Recently Discovered Elizabethan Farthingale Sleeve

In 2018 Ninya had the opportunity to examine a hitherto unknown and unique survival of late Elizabethan fashion and will present a paper at the Medats conference “What Lies Beneath”. The paper examines the evidence for the development and uptake of the fashion in the sixteenth century as well as details of the extant sleeve along with the story of its survival and preservation.

Clothing the lost king: reconstructing the wardrobe of Richard III

Ninya shares the research and making process behind the clothing made for the forthcoming film The Lost King. Ninya also looks at how Richard’s tailor may have dealt with the king’s scoliosis, and how evident his condition would have been to his contemporaries before his death.

Stories of the Gloucester shipwreck: Curating and Replicating Stuart Style

Ninya joins Ruth Battersby Tooke, Curator of Costume and Textiles at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery and Professor Maria Hayward who will be speaking on ‘The Politics of Restoration Fashion’. The talks (there are three others on different dates and covering different topics) are free of charge and include a complimentary drinks reception. Event attendees can enter the Gloucester Shipwreck exhibition for free from 5-6pm on the event days.
